As two students looking for holiday jobs, we were struck by how difficult it was to find work. Traditional jobs were overly competitive, inflexible, and often paid less than we felt the work deserved. Odd jobs, while more up our street, were few and far between. In fact, it often took longer to find these jobs than the time we’d actually spend doing them.
To our surprise, when we spoke to the people we were helping, they often said the same thing from the other side. They didn’t know how to find reliable people to help them, or where to even start looking.

That problem sparked the creation of CHOR, a British-based platform designed to connect people who need help with the thousands of people keen to get paid to provide it.

In September 2023, we began drawing up plans and creating the first designs of what is now the CHOR app. Turning those designs into reality proved far more difficult than we expected. With no prior experience in building an app, it took over 10 months of trial, error, and learning to create a platform we were finally proud of.

But our work isn’t done yet.

Now we face the challenge of bringing CHOR to more communities so others can benefit from the platform. We’re also working to keep improving the app and eventually expand CHOR to the web.
